Tips and Hints for Visiting
Stuff to do, not to do, and other miscellany
(In no partucilar order; and not absolutely necessary)

Vermont does not have advertisers' signs for gas, food, & hotels along their highways---just the blue international signs indicating there's something there. If you have 3 gas cards, need gas, pull off at a fuel sign---it will be a gas station you don't have a card for! *LOL*

If you're traveling north on I-91 into Vermont, be sure to stop at the very first Rest Area, the "Vermont Welcome Center", about 3 miles across the state line from Massachusetts. The facility is huge and totally beautiful---stocked with every map and brochure about the entire state of Vermont you could possibly ask for.

To get to King Arthur Flour Baker's Store, use I-91 (just north of the I-89 junction), Exit 13. Go down the ramp and the store is on the left. If coming from White River Junction, the store is only about 5 miles north of White River Junction on Route 5, on the right.

Attention smokers: There is almost no place to smoke in the entire state except the great big wide outdoors; however, there may be 1 or 2 restaurants that have a sealed-off smoking section, but don't count on it.

On Sunday; everything in the area except the Baker's Store is completely closed until noon; and even then some businesses stay closed all day. The Baker's Store hours are:
Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 6:00pm
Saturday, 8:30am - 6:00pm
Sunday, 8:30am - 4:00pm
Closed- Monday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day
Phone - 802-649-3361
Fax - 802-649-3365

Where to Stay: The Norwich Inn in "downtown" Norwich is totally wonderful---comfortable Victorian Inn with Pub and Diningroom (fabulous food!). Big Hint---you MUST make EARLY reservations as there aren't a lot of rooms; and visiting during a Dartmouth College affair may leave you "Inn-less". It's only 5 minutes from the KAF Baker's Store.

There are 2 chain hotels in White River Junction:
Best Western - I don't advise it; we had a bad experience there in 2001; there is no restaurant even close.
Comfort Inn - Possibliy the newest, but we have no experience there.
Note that they are ALL hard to find because of limitations on signs; and the actual "junction" is not easy to navigate.

Hanover, New Hampshire, the location of Dartmouth College, is just across the bridge from Norwich and has some good restaurants; i.e., Molly's

Pizza-lovers will fall in love with Lui Lui's in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Route 12A just off I-89. Huge wood-burning brick oven; they use King Arthur Flour; the pizzas are heavenly, to DIE for!!!

Weather in early June: Morning Low 47º Afternoon High 68º (and this was in good weather); take a sweater or jacket.

Weather in early August: Hot just like the rest of the country! Morning Low 59º Afternoon High 89º Shorts, T-shirts & Birkenstocks!

White River Junction prints and distributes a map of the area that is pictoral, way off scale, but does indicate businesses and points of interest. I advise caution if you're trying to follow it, especially going through the Village of Quechee.
