We are on our way to shop at the King Arthur store in early June, 2002. My shopping list is int my hand and I'm itching to go. Here are some photos taken during my visit. Little did I know that those folks had arranged for a little surprise Welcome!!
We're rolling north on Rte. 5 and pass this---it's the Baker's Catalogue Distribution Center! It's huge, no, it's monstrous! My excitement builds! | Here we are! I spy the store from the road and we're pulling in! My excitement builds even more! |
This is the front of the store; what a wonderful sight! I can feel my credit card twitching in my purse! | Here is the sign for newbies: Store to the left, Baker's Catalogue offices, including PJ's office, to the right. |
I get to the front door of the store and----I almost faint! There is a big sign on the door welcoming me!! Who in the world could have done THAT?! When I go in, everyone in the store is grinning like cheshire cats! | Here I am, almost recovered but weak in the knees from the shock. With me is Cindy Fountain , the Store Manager and a wonderful person, who bopped right out to meet me. I've known her since my very first visit. (I think she must have been the culprit.) |
I glance to the right toward PJ's office and shed a tear---PJ's not here but in Chicago! (The guy in the parking lot is scheduled to return for his photo for the Baker's Catalogue.) | Right inside the front door this beautiful sight greets me with fresh baked goodies to absolutely DIE for! We buy some to take back for tomorrow's breakfast (how could ANYONE pass all that up!) |
This is Sue Gray: PJ's assistant and test kitchen marvel (she tested my initially screwed-up Maple Cornbread recipe last year). Don't worry, she got me straightened out. | Here are Sue and me in the middle of the store. I'm a little bit calmer now---I already have over a basketful of great STUFF! (and I'm not through) |
Brett - Superguy; former cop; fabulous baker; travels with the baking class entourage (he was in my Roanoke class); got a hug from him. *LOL* | Shannon - Cindy told me that she rapidly worked her way up from the Baker's Catalogue Distribution Center to be Head of Media Relations. | Roy - He had to come out from the back of the store to see what all the hoopla was about! Great guy!---Member of the Human Resources team. | Breand - KAF photographer who takes some the photos for the Baker's Catalogue; and, HEY, SHE TOOK MINE! Who knows? Maybe I'll be famous! |
Alas, I've blown all the $$ I dare and it's time to go. *sigh* Cindy walks outside with us. It's farewell until next year. | Here is "Mr. Shaboom" with Cindy---he scarfed up all the freebie bread and cookies at the Bakery counter while I spent money! |
This is Judy Ulinski, our KAF baking class instructor in Roanoke. I just knew I had missed her; she wasn't at the store as she promised. She tracked us down at the hotel! Can you beat that?! What a super person, a real love, a wonderful baker, and a fantastic teacher! | Marlene was our bartender at Mema's restaurant in the hotel where Judy, Shaboom and "Mr. Shaboom" (hubby) shared a last farewell libation before we had to head south. Marlene's pouring--- Judy and hubby are chatting---and I'm dreaming already of Christmas presents from KAF! |
