Many years ago (mid-90's, I think), I accidentally discovered King Arthur Flour via their catalogue stuck into the pile of the usual mail catalogues I was about ready to throw out. Avid catalogue shopper that I was, I leafed through the little book and became intrigued. I said to myself, "Self, you're retired, why not try some of this stuff now that you have the time?"

Therein lies the beginning of my Odyssey. After one catalogue order and messing around with flour and pans, I found it was all worthwhile. I was having a ball!! Then sometime around 1997, Trainman and I began visiting family in New England. About that time, I also decided to learn how to bake bread, so we included the King Arthur Flour store in Norwich, Vermont, in our itinerary almost every year thereafter to load up on flour and lots of the best goodies the baking industry has to offer.

Everyone in the entire company is among the friendliest and happiest people I've ever met. Their goal is to make sure all their customers are well-served and satisfied. Why?---because the company is employee-owned! If you're not happy, they're not happy!

In these few pages of this section of my web site, you can visit with my hero, Peter Reinhart, my bread-baking classes, and a glimpse of "downtown" Norwich, Vermont. I hope you enjoy it and then go to the Baking Circle to visit with other bakers, or go to the King Arthur Flour home page to check out their Education Center; but don't forget to go back to all my recipe and menu pages! ENJOY!
