BEER BREAD
This is another old recipe but there must be dozens of versions. Here's mine---it goes together fast, bakes while you fix the rest of the meal, and goes well with most everything.
Yields 1 loaf
Prep.Time: 20 minutes + baking 1 hour
3 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon Salt
12 ounces beer -- at room temperature
2 tablespoons melted butter
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Butter a loaf pan and set aside. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and beer and mix well. The mixture should be sticky. Pour into the loaf pan and bake for 55 minutes. At the last 3 minutes of baking, remove from oven, brush the top of the loaf with butter and return to oven.
VARIATIONS:
1) Add 1 4-ounce can chopped green or jalapeno chiles
2) Add about 1/2 cup crumbled cooked Bacon
